F.I.S.H. of Santa Rosa A Food Pantry For All

Volunteer Orientation

Interested in volunteering at F.I.S.H.? Attend our next volunteer orientation: 2:30 on Monday, August 14, at our food pantry, 2900 McBride Lane in Santa Rosa.  Call Jeff at 707-538-4059 for more information and to reserve your place.

Do You Like Being Your Own Boss?

F.I.S.H. has 2 volunteer management positions available for one or two Saturdays each month.  Click on the button on the left for details.

F.I.S.H. needs drivers; male, female or couples. We need weekday drivers to pickup food from markets one week per month.  We need home delivery drivers to deliver food to some of our elderly and disabled clients one Saturday per month.  Don't have a large vehicle of your own?  No problem!  We now have a van you can use to help us.  For more information, call John Dennison at 707-544-1930.

How To Volunteer

F.I.S.H. is a non-profit organization, 100% managed and staffed by volunteers.

F.I.S.H. food pantry in Santa Rosa always has room for more volunteers. Volunteers typically work from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am to 12:15 pm on Saturdays (food drive volunteers have a separate schedule).

Whether you can only work an occasional day or would like to volunteer a few days a month, F.I.S.H. can use your help in serving the more than 1,300 families who call each month. Our schedules are flexible, with jobs for all abilities.  We can even use you if you can only work an occasional Saturday. The jobs are described below.

TELEPHONE DISPATCHER:  Handles incoming calls from clients requesting food pick-up that day. Can be done by someone unable to lift or carry bags of groceries.

BAGGER:  Prepares food bags for clients. The amount of food placed in grocery bags depends on the size of the family requesting food. Must be able to lift and carry grocery bags.

DOOR PERSON:  Handles pick-up of food by clients. Prepares items stored in refrigerators & freezers for distribution, such as dairy and meat. Must be able to lift and carry grocery bags.

RECEIVING ROOM HELPER:  Sorts and prepares donated food to be distributed.  Keeps the distribution area supplied during hours of operation.

DRIVER: Possession of a pickup, van or large SUV is a plus, but not required. Has to be able to lift up to 40 lbs.  Picks up donated food from supermarkets.  Works in team of 2 each morning for one week, every 4 weeks.

FOOD DRIVE VOLUNTEER: Make a big difference for F.I.S.H. while spending just 2.5 hours on an occasional Saturday. We currently have food drives once a month at two Santa Rosa Safeway Stores. You will have fun and meet the nicest people.

HOME DELIVERY VOLUNTEER: We need a few people to serve once a month on Saturday to help package and deliver food to some of our elderly and disabled clients.

FRIENDS OF FISH (FOF) GROUP: Form your own FOF group and work together with a regular schedule.

Does this sound like something you would like to do? It’s a small commitment but very satisfying work.
