2016 Postal Food Drive

Saturday, May 14

This is the biggest food drive of the year for F.I.S.H. Our food manager, Ronnie Shirley, spends the months leading up to it in preparation to receive and store this huge influx of food.

‚ÄčLate in the afternoon on the day of the food drive, the letter carriers of zip code 95403 begin arriving as they finish their routes.  The food is unloaded in our parking lot where it is unbagged (we reuse the bags), weighed and moved into the storage room where it is sorted and stored.

May's Supermarket Food Drives Were Very Successful

Thank you Santa Rosa!

It is with sadness that we must combine our celebration of another successful Postal Food Drive with the news of a F.I.S.H. volunteer who recently died of cancer. Mike "Wizard" Campbell was a 15 year veteran of our annual Postal Food Drives, always arriving early and staying late. In addition, Wizard was a frequent aide to our food manager, Ronnie Shirley; he was always willing to lend a hand or a vehicle; whatever was needed to keep F.I.S.H. running smoothly behind the scenes. The expenses of his illness and cremation have left his family needing our help. Here is the GoFundMe site where you can donate to help the family in their time of grief and need.

Denise Gallo, our newest food drive volunteer, helped our two Safeway food drives in May bring in about $3700 in cash and food.  This will allow us to continue to give generous amounts of food to all who ask, plus offer meat to all our clients.

Join Denise in this rewarding activity.  It involves a time commitment of just 2.5 hours on occasional Saturdays, handing out flyers to arriving shoppers and watching the donations pile up.
